Music Tip of the Month: String Players
As the weather cools in Colorado, your string instrument might start going out of tune more often due to changes in temperature and humidity. Cold air causes wood to contract, while dry conditions can loosen strings. To keep your instrument in top shape, try storing it in a warm, stable environment, and use a humidifier inside your case to protect the wood from drying out.
You’ll also need to tune more frequently this time of year, as these weather changes can affect string tension. If your strings are older, consider replacing them—cold weather can make them more prone to snapping. By staying on top of tuning and protecting your instrument from extreme conditions, you’ll keep your sound clear and stable all season long. Happy playing!

Finding Harmony in the Holidays: The Power of Music During Busy Times
The holiday season is often filled with joy, but it can also bring a fair amount of stress. With the hustle and bustle of shopping, traveling, and preparing for family gatherings, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. However, music offers a unique way to bring balance to the chaos. For students here at the Parker Music Academy, lessons provide a much-needed outlet to focus and unwind during this hectic time. Whether practicing a favorite holiday song or exploring a new piece, the act of making music helps quiet the mind and bring peace amid the seasonal rush.
Taking time to practice an instrument or work on vocal skills during the holidays offers more than just musical development—it can be a powerful form of self-care. For many students, music becomes a way to center themselves, offering a break from the stress of daily life. Studies show that playing an instrument or singing can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and even boost cognitive function. This makes music lessons not only a way to improve one’s craft but also an essential tool for emotional well-being during the holiday season.
As we approach the New Year, it’s a great time to reflect on the role music plays in our lives. Whether it’s playing a holiday favorite for loved ones, attending a festive performance, or simply enjoying a quiet moment of practice, music helps us connect with the season in meaningful ways. This holiday season, let’s celebrate the harmony music brings to our lives—both in our lessons and in our hearts. It’s a reminder that, even in the busiest times, we can find peace through the power of song.
